Since 1982, I have been documenting the lifestyles and landscapes of the Chateauguay Valley in southwest Québec. The Chateauguay River flows out of the Adirondack Mountains of northern New York State (USA) and ends at the St. Lawrence River just west of Montreal (Canada). Its watershed defines a region of contrasts--in human cultures, natural history, and politics. And within this region is a rural community that clings to tradition despite an ever-increasing pressure to join the pace of the modern world. |
