L'ècole primaire Franklin

restera ouvert!

On January 9, 2007 at its regular monthly meeting in Howick, Quebec, the New Frontiers School Board voted not to close Franklin Elementary School as was recommended by the Future Directions Committee last September. Citing positive citizen response to the Board's process and negative economic impacts of closure, the Council of Commissioners made the decision before a packed auditorium with a large media presence.

Howick Elementary School was also kept open while St. Joseph's School in Huntingdon will be converted into an Adult Education Centre with its elementary students merging with those at the Huntingdon Academy. Citizens who had worked hard to keep their rural English community schools open thanked the Commissioners and vowed to work with them to find long-term sustainability solutions, one of which will be lobbying the provincial government for preferential funding.
